Our Athlete of the month for December 2013 is Zach Moody!
When did you start Crossfit and find Crossfit Hixson?
I started Crossfit in April of 2012. I was persuaded to try it by Sarah, who had been “WODding” for approximately 6 months. She constantly talked about how terrible the workouts were, and about how much she ached, but insisted that I would like it. I was able to find excuses for a while, but eventually they ran out. My first actual experience was April 28th, and it was then that I realized it was for me.
What is your fitness background?
Throughout High School and up until starting Crossfit I was in a cycle of lifting heavy and cardio, but never at the same time. I would go through a phase of wanting to be “big”, and then I would go through a cardio phase. There was typically a “relaxation” phase in between each. Back in August 2004, I found myself relaxing at 260 lbs (soft). This continued for about a year, and then I decided to address the issue. This consisted of temporary diets, with mild to medium cardio. After this, it had a slinky effect where I’d get in shape then get lazy, and so on.
What is your biggest diet cheat?
My cheats vary; it would be hard to narrow down just one. I love bread, sweets and whiskey. All of which are probably on the “no” list.
What is your favorite WOD?
It would be hard to narrow down a WOD that I dislike the least. I try to push myself on all of them, so they all hurt. Typically the one’s I am most satisfied with are the Wods that I can stay close to some of the “front runners”. If I can keep them close, I can push myself a lot harder and further then when they just run away with it.
What are your Crossfit goals and things you want to achieve with it?
Goals…… My goals are just to continue to get stronger and become more comfortable at the technical movements.
How has CFH Hixson made an impact on your life?
Crossfit has not gotten me to the point where I am today. The Coaches and athletes at CFH have been the motivators and cheerleaders that were crucial in my achievements. The knowledge of the coaches and support of everyone has taken me to levels I couldn’t find anywhere else.
Anything else you want to add?
When I started coming to the box, towels were readily available. Now that they are not, I struggle daily with questions of what will I wipe the floor with, or if I puke, what will absorb it?
